The Wheel Train

CLICK ON A PART OR A PART LABEL FOR MORE DETAIL

The power flow through the movement is shown by the blue arrows: the main wheel (integral to the mainspring barrel), center wheel, third wheel, fourth wheel, and escape wheel. Each wheel drives the pinion gear of the following wheel.

Many contemporary watches with center seconds use a modified gear train layout to drive the seconds hand in the center of the dial.  Click here to see a photograph of the Fontainemelon caliber 97 center seconds gear train.
